Atkiq Michelle Ilutsik-Snyder grew up in Alaqnaqiq and Curyung (Aleknagik and Dillingham) and is currently living in Dgheyaytnu (Anchorage). A life-long subsistence and commercial fisherman, she has spent most of her summers harvesting fish in Iquk (Ekuk). A former secondary educator, she is passionate about the importance of cultural teachings and language revitalization. Atkiq has taught Yup’ik language through the University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus, and was a member of a Yup’ik language cohort developing curriculum and teaching classes at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. In her current role as Culture Camp Project Director for Bristol Bay Native Corporation, she works to develop cultural and language programs and resources for youth in the Bristol Bay Region.
