Janelle Vanasse has been an educator in Alaska for nearly 30 years, working in schools that serve primarily Alaska Native students. She has been on a career-long journey in learning how culture supports academic success. As principal of Bethel Regional High school, Janelle has earned national “get schooled” recognition for her work in building a college-going culture. She is now serving as the superintendent of Mt. Edgecumbe High School. Her recent doctoral work with Gonzaga University focused on school actions to create a more culturally affirming college readiness model.
