“Close Looking” at Northwest Coast Art with Children

Helping children slow down and examine a work of art (or other objects) builds appreciation, makes connections, and develops curiosity and a desire to learn more. This workshop shares several experiences, and the tools used in the process, where elementary students are guided through “Slow Looking” and other thinking routines to see and wonder and learn about Northwest Coast art in their school community at a deep, respectful, and authentic level.
