Components of a Culturally Responsive K-12 System

Building on the work of the Alaska Rural Systemic Initiative (AKRSI) of the early 2000s, this session will look at the elements of a culturally responsive school system. Culturally responsive educators are the heart of culturally responsive education, but educators alone are insufficient to reach the promise of a system that serves all our children equitably. AKRSI found that the school, curriculum, administration, and school boards all must be culturally responsive. This session will consider what it means for different parts of the system and look at examples in Alaska.
