Digital Storytelling for the Culturally Responsive Educator

This breakout session will provide an overview of how digital storytelling can be used as a tool in any cultural context to honor the stories, values, and experiences of students and their communities. I will explore two case studies: teaching digital storytelling to immigrant and refugee students at East High School in Anchorage and teaching subsistence-themed digital storytelling workshops in the Northwest Arctic School District. An emphasis will be placed on both the culturally responsive possibilities inherent in digital storytelling as well as practical advice on how to implement this in your classroom.
