How do we learn language? Understanding first and second language acquisition: A foundation for equitable instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs)


This workshop weaves together theory and practice as it integrates the understanding of first and second language acquisition processes with the creation of equitable classroom instruction for ELLs. Participants will review the foundation of first and second language acquisition and discuss some key, best-teaching practices and strategies for second or language learners in the regular classroom. Participants will discuss and arrive at a deeper understanding of the cultural and linguistic issues that affect English Language Learners in Alaska. (TESOL Teacher Preparation Standard 1 provides the framework for this presentation.)
