As a non-Native teacher, I have always been able to make connections with all of my students. Since moving home to Juneau to teach, I have begun adding culturally relevant and placed-based lessons and activities into my high school math classroom. In this session I hope that teachers can walk away with an idea of what they can do in their classroom. I will discuss the process I use to create, implement, and refine my placed-based lessons. I will also talk about small things that can be done on a daily basis to help build positive connections and student achievement.
