In Lak’ech: Restorative Circles, Culture, Connection – Jackie Wood & Courtney Young

For centuries our ancestors have gathered in talking and peacemaking circles. Rooted in Indigenous wisdom, Restorative Practices include a range of proactive strategies that promote equitable, resilient, and culturally responsive learning environments. This session will provide fundamental theory and practices for engaging with students, staff, and parents in school settings. Additionally, participants will practice protocols to prevent and reduce harmful behaviors, build and restore relationships, and promote access and equity. Participants will explore Restorative Practices through a cultural lens, intentionally embedding culturally responsive pedagogy within community-building circles.
