Cultural Standards for School Leaders – Jackie Wood & Courtney Young

According to educator and activist Shaheen Mistri, school leadership is a “critical element of student success” and essential to creating a “strong ecosystem in our schools.” Representatives from SERRC, Alaska’s Educational Resource Center, will share their experiences in partnering with Sealaska Heritage Institute through the Opening Doors for Alaska Native Students grant to create a culturally-responsive evaluation framework for school leaders. These standards are aligned with the essential elements of cultural proficiency and are appropriate for use with teacher leaders, school administrators, educator training programs, and school boards. SERRC staff will provide an overview of the standards development process, an in-depth exploration of the framework, and a discussion of potential for implementation.
