As we become more seasoned professionals, we find we are called on to mentor or coach new members of our educational communities. How do we communicate effectively with our colleagues? How do we use our own skills to raise others up in their work? How do we effectively convey the job requirements to our mentees so they are motivated to learn? This workshop will cover some essential areas of proficiency we need to consider to be effective mentors/coaches in our jobs working as mentors/coaches in any context – special education, administration, instructional settings. Participants will be called on to consider their own means of communication and how these can affect mentoring/coaching relationships. Self-reflection activities are designed to help new mentors/coaches gain insight into what they bring to the table for their mentees and where they may, themselves, see a need for growth.
