Dr. Jasḵwaan Bedard is an assistant professor at Simon Fraser University in the Indigenous Languages Program. Her specialty is X̱aad Kíl, the Old Massett or Northern dialect of the Haida language, as well as methodologies and pedagogies for Indigenous language strengthening. Dr. Bedard’s dissertation is titled “X̱aad Kihlga Tl’a Guusuugiigangsaang: A Haida Research Framework for Learning X̱aad Kíl” and aims to provide a pathway for specialized Haida language learning guided by Haida community, laws, and values. Jasḵwaan is a mother, Haida singer, X̱aad Kíl translator, and X̱aad Kíl learning resource developer.
