Selena Coburn, BC-DMT, LMHC, LCPC, is a mental health and dance/movement therapist in Great Falls, Montana. She serves as department chair for the Social Sciences Department and program director for the Addictions Counseling Program at Great Falls College Montana State University. She is also a senior lecturer at Lesley University and Antioch University.

Selena is a descendant of the Blackfeet, Klamath, and Pitt River tribes. She earned her BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase College in Purchase, New York. Her dance/movement therapy training includes the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan and Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a board-certified dance/movement therapist, Selena believes in the importance of decolonizing dance as therapy and centering culturally inclusive processing as a therapeutic principle.

Selena has worked with adolescents in residential treatment settings and has witnessed the power of cultural healing elements to support young people as they navigate social, emotional, physical, and relational development. Her work focuses on culturally responsive education, Indigenous-centered mental health practices, addiction counseling, embodied ethics, and creating educational spaces where students’ cultural identities, histories, and lived experiences are honored as sources of strength.

She has presented on Blackfeet cultural dances, Native American perspectives, dance/movement therapy, ethics, and culturally responsive practice in local, regional, and international settings. Selena founded the Native American Affinity Group as part of the Multicultural Diversity Committee of the American Dance/Movement Therapy Association and received the ADTA Leader of Tomorrow Award in 2020. She previously served on the Texas Chapter board and as chair of the ADTA Standards and Ethics Committee, where she serves.

Selena is committed to mentoring students and advancing culturally grounded, embodied approaches to education, counseling, and dance/movement therapy.
