Dr. PanigkaqAgatha John-Shields is the daughter of the late Dr. Chief Kangrilnguq Paul John and Anguyaluk Martina John of Nunakauyaq (Toksook Bay), Alaska. Before serving in her current position as an Associate Professor for Indigenizing Education at the University of Alaska Anchorage, she served in Bethel, Alaska, as a Yugtun language teacher, materials developer, and principal at Ayaprun Elitnaurvik Yup’ik Immersion public charter school.
