Miakah Nix (Haida & Tsimshian) is a regional contractor working with several Kake leadership entities on culture and food security programming. On behalf of the Organized Village of Kake, Miakah supports multiple programs, including Indigenous Guardians, Food Security, TIDES/Black Seaweed Monitoring, and Native Kelp Farming Initiatives. On behalf of the Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation, Miakah hosts subsistence education workshops for local high school youth and is the Garden Champion for a new orchard being planted in downtown Kake. Miakah has worked at the intersection of Tribal Natural Resources, community economic development, and culture for a decade. She loves to fish, hunt, gather, and learn and experiment with new (and very old) recipes for traditional foods.
